(1) These papers were given to AIMH by Mrs. Ma Chih-suh in 2003 after Ma’s death. Ma Chih-suh was born in Hebei Province in 1923 and came to Taiwan in 1949 along with the Nationalist government, first teaching at a junior high school and later became manager of Free China Journal自由中國半月刊, a liberal journal founded by Lei Chen 雷震. He was implicated in the Lei Chen Incident in 1960 and sent for reform for 3 years. After his release, he taught at Shih Hsin School of Journalism and acted as editor and editor-in-chief for several publishers in Taipei until retirement. These papers contain his manuscripts, publications and correspondence with Lei Chen and Song Ying宋英, which can be described as the final piece in the jigsaw of the Lei Chen Incident, a milestone in Taiwan's early democracy movement.

  1. These papers range from the year of 1936 to 2002 and contain 290 volumes.

(2) 2,460 volumes of digital images of the Agricultural Extension Committee農業推廣委員會under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry農林部have been added to the AIMH online database. They contain documents of various institutions and organizations on food increase, agriculture promotion and regional breeding stations and farms during and after the Second Sino-Japanese War (1940-1949).

(3) This Databank is the result of the AIMH’s 2021-2022 Digital Humanities Program, namely the Increasing Agricultural Production: Modern Chinese Agricultural Promotion and Added-Value Project. By using the data of salaries and living allowance in above-mentioned Agricultural Extension Committee files, AIMH built this Salary Databank for the wartime period which contains over 60,000 pieces of data relating to more than 3,000 agricultural economic officials. It is linked to the original documents and can be used for comparison of prices in various provinces during the Second Sino-Japanese War.
